strong passwords without special characters

i found already http://support.lyndir.com/topic/139365-long-passwo... , but i want to ask again. Using special characters in passwords reveal problems: different types of keyboards, different character sets. The "strongest" password without a special character is the "Basic Type" with just 8 characters. Is it possible to create e.g. long passwords (13 characters) without special characters ?

The primary reason for there to be special characters in the long password is to be compatible with website password policies that often require at least one non-alphanumeric character.  Special characters don't actually improve the entropy of the password.

Note that the set of symbol characters used by Master Password has been chosen specifically to not include symbols that are often disallowed by site password policies and symbols found on mobile device keyboards.

I'm reluctant to add more types unless they can be shown to provide a significant advantage.
